LUX Live

LUX Live is a Revit plugin for real-time daylight checks against Swedish and Norwegian standards. It does not require specialist knowledge and is intended to be used by architects who want to evaluate daylight during design to avoid later redesigns.

How accurate is it?
RadianceLUX

LUX uses a machine-learning model that has been validated against Radiance (the most common daylight simulation engine).

For relevant rooms, LUX Live's results carry an error of about 10–15%. For context, Radiance itself has an error of about 15% compared to real field measurements (Kharvari, 2020).

LUX Live is able to predict compliance with the same level of accuracy as the Swedish simplified method (Bournas, 2021), with the advantage that it can be used in virtually all relevant rooms, versus only about 25% for the simplified method.

Limitations

Its real-time results are preliminary and are not meant to be used as official proof of compliance. The official simulation and report submitted with a building-permit application is produced with LUX Certify, which runs a certified Radiance simulation.

Some cases (skylights, curtain walls) are not yet supported and will be added in later releases. Daylight Autonomy (DA) and custom reflectances are in experimental development and not yet available.

LUX is built by Upskiller with support from Vinnova, Almi, and Scaleway and is used by architects at White Arkitekter and LINK Arkitektur, among others.
